"Tumbleweed Heart"
She never wanted anyone,
To stay and hold her down,
Her heart was like a tumbleweed,
Refused to stay around.
She loved her kids and grandkids,
But no faith in a man,
And she never had one,
With whom she could stand.
She learned to trust in no one,
She would not let them in,
All because of what they did,
The places where she’d been.
She thought that she was happy,
Not needing anyone,
Worked hard and was successful,
With a little play and fun.
But sometimes in the quiet,
The Spirit called her name,
She believed in Jesus,
That He died and rose again.
Since she was a little girl,
She always felt God near,
On Him she was dependent,
And He cast out her fear.
And every now and then again,
She thought there was a prince,
A cowboy God would send her,
Sometimes she had the sense,
That God had even promised,
That He’d send him along,
And she would recognize him,
And to him belong.
But truth is she might hope it,
But did not strong believe,
Her heart still like a tumbleweed,
Saw no way to receive.
And then all of a sudden,
The Lord said, “Here he is,”
And there was no mistaking,
She heard God saying this.
And, no, he was not perfect,
But he loved Jesus, too,
And yet was really gun-shy,
‘Cause of all that he’d been through.
His heart was like a tumbleweed,
For reasons that he knew,
Were not always legitimate,
But bothered him, it’s true.
But, see, God had prepared him,
Through all his lonely years,
God knew what he needed,
Kept track of all his tears.
And he thought she was perfect,
That she was God’s great gift,
The one that He has sent him,
His burden she could lift.
And now they are together,
God made sure they wed,
Completing one another,
The Lord did what He said.
And now there is a future,
That God says He’ll create,
Their hearts no longer tumbleweeds,
God’s plan, and not just fate.
“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed…” (Ecclesiastes 4:9, NLT)
God is the author of spiritual partnerships. He brings people together so that they can accomplish more and can help each other. Jesus said where two or three gathered in His name they would experience His presence. Where two or three agree in prayer, God answers. When someone refuses to repent, two or three should go and try to restore them. There is great power in partnership. But some of us find it very difficult to open up and allow anyone to get close to us. It’s not hard to see why. The more disappointments we’ve suffered, the less apt we are to receive a God-ordained relationship. But God is still in the business of connecting people, and there is great blessing in the connection. Find it!
Lord, help us connect with the spiritual partnerships You are giving us, in Jesus’ name.
