"Unsafe"

The Book says love each other,

The way the Lord loves us,

And by His grace we do it,

Though the devil makes a fuss.

To confuse all of our efforts,

Sometimes we go too far,

That’s when the Holy Spirit,

Will show us who they are,

Not the ones that we can help,

Says don’t cast pearls ‘fore swine,

And shake that dust right off your feet,

And you will be just fine.

Says don’t let others’ company,

Corrupt your moral stance,

Don’t be yoked to unbelievers,

Or partner in their dance.

Stay away form anger addicts,

‘Cause you might learn their ways,

And put your soul in peril,

Disconnect from them always.

And all of those pretenders,

With the form but not the power,

Stay away from those folks, too,

And start this very hour.

Doesn’t mean that you don’t love them,

It just means to be wise,

‘Cause people can be hurtful,

So open up your eyes,

And with the Good Lord leading,

He’ll show those we can win,

Or plant the seeds, pour water,

So let it now begin.

Safe people are a blessing,

They’ll love and stand by you,

But some pose present danger,

God’s wisdom shows us who.

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers…” (2 Corinthians 6:14, NIV)

We are called to love everyone and to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. We are called to lead others to HIm, and the biblical pattern for doing so is to build relationships of trust and credibility. But the Bible also warns us concerning our connections with people who don’t believe. Not being yoked with them means we do not allow our connection with them lead us astray. And there are some people with whom we need to sever ties. Someone else will be sent to lead them to Christ. Our job is to pray for them and love them from a distance. That’s using God-given wisdom.

Lord, help us to be wise concerning all our relational connections, in Jesus’ name. a
