"Water"
Jesus asked for water,
From the woman at the well,
She was shocked He asked her,
And no doubt you can tell,
By the way she answered,
And all the way she spoke,
That she was one with problems,
And whose heart was broke.
John had baptized Jesus,
In the river Jordan’s flow,
Down into the water,
With the Spirit’s dove you know.
Jesus walked on water,
When the storm was raging high,
Then He stilled the water,
The waves obeyed His cry.
Jesus called men from the water
They left their nets to go,
Jesus taught beside the water,
The Father’s plan to show.
He offered to the woman,
Living water for her thirst,
And she would never thirst again,
‘Cause He forgave her worst.
In the end she took the water,
Of Spirit and of truth,
She ran and told the others,
Though she had been uncouth.
Salvation for the woman,
Living water like a spring,
Flowing from her deepest heart,
God’s presence all to bring.
And that same living water,
Will overflow from us,
If we will accept it,
And place in God our trust.
The water is the answer,
And we will thirst no more,
And from our inner being,
Will living water pour.
““But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:14, NLT)
Jesus described abundant and eternal life in many ways. He spoke of being born of the wind, eating bread from heaven, and embracing the easy yoke and light burden. When talking to the Samaritan woman He spoke of living water, an no matter how she tried to divert the conversation away from it, He persisted in the offer. On another occasion at the great feast in Jerusalem, He shouted with a loud voice and offered living water to everyone there. Perhaps this all seems very mysterious to you, but all those who’ve had a taste know what Jesus was talking about. The good news is that He still offers it.
Lord, quench our thirst and flow through us, in Jesus’ name.
