"What Cowboys Do"
There’s a time and place for everything,
The Bible says it’s true,
And this applies to everything,
But have they seen what cowboys do?
I’ve watched ‘em rope a crazy bull,
And drag him off somewhere,
Latch onto that fearsome beast,
Without a thought or care.
I’ve seen ‘em ride through ice and snow,
To try to save a calf,
And if you ask how hard it was,
He’ll shake his head and laugh.
Seen him top off a buckin’ bronc,
And if he hit the ground,
Gather reins and step back on,
Without complaint or sound.
And, yes, I’ve known some who would drink,
And dip or smoke a few,
Who rarely made their way to church,
Or sang hymns in a pew.
But in the push and pull of life,
Those who live the cowboy way,
Have been the best friends I have known,
And all I have to say,
Is He who promised He would make,
All things and seasons, too,
Become a thing of beauty,
Knows what the cowboys do.
And many who have found Him,
And then were born again,
Give to the Lord their every ride,
And by grace turn from sin.
To everything a season,
That’s how the Good Book reads,
And we say long live cowboys,
And the livestock that he feeds.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)
Life is a seasonal proposition and so is God’s work. This means that in spite of the chaos, God is still ultimately in control. This does not mean we have no choice to make. Indeed we do, and what we choose is like a seed we plant. It contains the consequences that the season of harvest will ultimately produce. But God watches over the process to bring blessing and correction. When change happens, we are called to embrace it and move to the next season. There is a time for everything, and God makes it beautiful in His time.
Lord, help us embrace Your season, in Jesus’ name.
