"What I Wish"
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight,
I wish I could go back and fight,
The battles that I lost.
If I knew then what I know now,
I’d find a way to win somehow,
By the Spirit make this vow,
And gladly pay the cost.
A battle lost is lesson learned,
I carry all the scars I earned,
And there were lots of bridges burned,
And yet I’m fighting still.
Battle-wise because I know,
It is not my time to go,
Speak the word and let it show,
And point them to His will.
Realize not flesh and blood,
But evil spirits like a flood,
And we with armor, dry or mud,
We stand in Jesus’ name.
Like all the warriors in God’s fight,
Who work and battle in the light,
For souls so precious in His sight,
We live for Jesus’ fame.
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all the strategies of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11, NLT)
We are in a spiritual battle against supernatural evil. Since that is the case, Paul counsels two fundamental ways that we engage and win against our enemy. First, we learn to draw our strength from the power of the Holy Spirit. It is only when the Spirit empowers, fills and leads us that we can be victorious. Second, put on all the armor of God. What does this mean? It means that we clothe ourselves with our spiritual identity in Christ. Each piece of armor describes a different part of our relationship with the Lord, and who He has called us to be. Simply put, when you know who you are, you will learn how to fight. God’s power coupled with our true, spiritual identity will enable us to win against evil.
Lord, help us win the spiritual battle, in Jesus’ name.
