"What If?"

What if we saw a roper,

Who threw his rope away,

Didn’t track the cattle,

His rope horse made no play.

What if that old bronc rider,

Never called for “out,”

Jus sat there in the buckin’ chute,

We’d think it strange, no doubt.

What if that bulldogger,

Dashed right down the pen,

But never wrestled cattle,

So weird without it then.

What if the bull rider,

Never pulled his rope,

There would not be eight seconds.

Or hardly any hope.

But somehow I see the same things,

With followers of Christ,

Who never really do it,

But are trying to be nice.

Like playing like a cowboy,

But never getting done,

The thing you came to ride for,

And what you wish you won.

Try to be a doer,

And faithful to His word,

All things He says are possible.

Because we trust the Lord.

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says…” (James 1:22, NLT)

We can all do better when it comes to obeying the Lord. But some of us have given up and settled for far less than what God intends. James says, be a doer of the word and don’t just listen. Strong advice? Yes. Put what we know into practice, and the Lord will honor our willingness to apply the truth. Most of us really need God’s encouragement to surrender every part of our lives to Jesus Christ. He is not Lord of the leftovers, but rather of everything!

Lord, help us surrender to You, in Jesus’ name.
