"Where's the Love"

Sometimes I’ll say that I’m surprised,

That Christians act this way,

So unkind, love hard to find,

I don’t think it’s okay.

And when it comes down to it,

Jesus said it, true,

The world will know by love we show,

That we are in His crew.

Not by knowing Scripture,

Or what we are against,

Though we should never compromise,

Or ride on that old fence.

But I’ve seen rudeness and impatience,

Anger, even rage,

With believers and receivers,

Who can quote the Bible page.

But when it comes to people,

They just don’t seem to care,

Seems so wrong, a sad old song,

I see it everywhere.

People seem to think if we,

Speak of love too much,

Folks won’t change, they’ll stay the same,

And we’ll be out of touch.

But if we speak the truth in love,

Just as Jesus did,

He hated sin, gave mercy then,

And helped them to get rid,

Of all the things that made them sick,

Said go and sin no more,

But didn’t judge and wouldn’t budge,

When opening that door.

So love the sinner, hate the sin,

And maybe we can find,

A better way to have our say,

Leave our selfishness behind.

Give the love out freely,

Just like the love God gave,

Odds they will see and finally be,

The one whom He will save.

“If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life…” (1 John 3:14, NLT)

The proof that we belong to Jesus is that we share the love we have received from Him. It’s a non-negotiable of God’s word. Jesus said the fruit of authentic discipleship is love, “by this they will know… “ And yet some of the meanest people claim to be followers of Christ. God has not called us to judge these folks, but He has definitely called us not to be like them. Angry “Christians” win no one to Christ, and in fact do more harm than good. The world may know what we’re against, and how wrong we think they are. But they may never receive the truth about Jesus until we show them His love.

Lord, help us show the love, in Jesus’ name.
