"Pass It On"

Down long roads of life we go,

Our rate of speed runs fast or slow,

But day by day is all we know,

Till they come to an end.

And cowboy up and cowboy through,

It’s who we are and what we do,

With ancient skill and tech so new,

And hope we can extend,

This way of life, God’s gift to us,

To pass it on we think we must,

We ask the Lord, with Him discuss,

The way to make it so.

We look for those who can be taught,

The way of horse and cow we sought,

And know such knowledge can’t be bought,

But can be shared, you know.

From older hands to younger men,

From fathers teaching sons and then,

Anywhere cowboys  will befriend,

Someone who wants to learn.

There’s hope this life will carry on,

But only when it’s passed along,

So saddle up and let’s get gone,

Don’t let that sunshine burn.

“You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.” (2 Timothy 2:2, NLT)

Paul reveals the spiritual strategy that he used to make disciples for Jesus. The method was based upon relationship and mentorship. Find trustworthy people. Teach them what you’ve been taught. Encourage and equip them to teach others who will do the same. This was exactly what Jesus did with the twelve, and it is still the best approach to helping people grow spiritually. It’s also the best way for anyone to learn a new skill, cowboy or otherwise. Pass it on.

Lord, help us pass along to others what You have entrusted to us, in Jesus’ name.
