"Why"

The reasons are not obvious,

Why folks do what they do,

And some it’s true, don’t have a clue,

When they injure me and you.

They say the hurting spread the hurt,

Just like an injured horse,

He’s been abused, and badly used,

He’s dangerous, of course.

And like an injured person,

Who’s scared of what will be,

From the wound, emotions tuned,

Will inflict pain, you see.

So how can we do better,

We must connect the dots,

‘Cause effect or what a wreck,

We break God’s thou shalt nots.

Not to find excuses,

But simply reasons why,

Receive the grace, God’s healing place,

He leads a brand-new try.

To alter our behavior,

Let God change us from within,

Addictions, too, and all we do,

His Spirit will begin,

To point out all the reasons,

Both sin and it’s real cause,

And then show how, and starting now,

To bring the Lord applause.

“You will always harvest what you plant…” (Galatians 6:7, NLT)

It’s important for all of us to see the connection between the seeds we plant and the harvest they produce. If we can discern this before we plant a seed of word or action, it will save us from having to endure a bad harvest. This passage presents two choices. We can sow selfish seeds to satisfy our sinful nature, or we can sow seeds that please the Holy Spirit. From selfish seeds we reap a harvest of decay and death. From the Spirit-seeds we harvest life. Understanding why we do what we do is a large part of this. What needs to be healed deep within us so that we can plant the right seed?

Lord, teach us to plant seeds to please Your Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
