"Wind and Flame"

The wind is singing in the wire,

And blows just where it goes,

Don’t let it get behind a fire,

‘Cause every cowboy knows,

That when a flame is traveling fast,

The wind will make it spread,

Cover country long and vast,

When fire and wind are wed.

So is it any wonder,

When the Spirit was explained,

Like a dove when Christ went under,

Then rose to free the chained,

That wind and fire together,

Were used to point to Him,

He’ll blow and burn the tether,

Held by the devil’s whim.

And no man can control it,

When the Spirit is out-poured,

But rather heart and soul it,

To glorify the Lord.

And spreading like a wild fire,

To birth and baptize men,

When their need is so dire,

To bring revival then.

Do not fear the fire,

The wind blows healing flame,

It carries God’s desire,

And heals in Jesus’ name.

Burns away the cancer,

That eats a sinner’s soul,

Creates a Spirit-dancer,

Who’s thankful to be whole.

We cannot make this happen,

But we can let it, though,

Our hearts set to clappin’,

‘Cause finally we know,

The Lord as Holy Spirit,

Living water, flame and wind,

And we need to get with it,

To be revived again.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17, NIV)

The Holy Spirit is God’s presence interacting in this time/space dimension with human beings. Though one with the Father and Son, the Spirit uniquely and personally transforms people, He sets us free to be like Jesus, and if we cooperate with His leading, will empower us to be witnesses. Though compared to water, wind and flame, He is the Lord and not an impersonal force. To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with Jesus.

Lord, liberate our lives by Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
