"Words"
Came at a lope from nowhere,
So steady and so fast,
And when they first arrived here,
I doubted they would last.
Thought they’d be gone, forgotten,
Never to return,
But I just didn’t realize,
All that I had to learn.
A poem every day you see,
If I would make some time,
They started coming line by line,
With meter and with rhyme.
Those words that keep on coming,
Are given as a sign,
That the Good Lord’s speaking,
And sometimes He’ll assign,
Someone who will listen,
And write down what they hear,
Give the space, He’ll fill it,
They continue to appear.
I don’t fully understand it,
But then that’s not the deal
I only know the words come,
And the Holy Spirit’s real.
So maybe give a listen,
To the whisper on the wind,
Give welcome to the Spirit,
And the words that He will send.
“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 8:3, NIV)
This is the scripture that Jesus quoted when the devil tempted him to turn stones into bread because He was hungry. Moses reminded the people of God’s provision of manna for them in the wilderness which was a daily provision. But then added that they should live by every word that comes from the Lord’s mouth. For us this would mean that we follow the Scriptures of the Bible. But it also means that we listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit who leads us and teaches us how to apply God’s Word to our lives. Living that way becomes a great adventure of listening and obeying! What words is He saying to you right now?
Lord, help us to listen to Your words, in Jesus’ name.
