"All Your Days"

They sometimes call it cowboy code,

A rule that you live by,

Others just morality,

From birth till when you die.

You can always find someone,

Who’s better off than you,

And someone who is doing worse,

I guess it’s always true.

So stop all that comparing,

And learn to be content,

Put your trust in Jesus,

And the blessings He has sent.

Do your work and get it done,

With no entitlement,

Earn your wage and show your worth,

And pay back what they lent.

Keep your word and promise,

Though it might painful be,

Press on through and finish,

With all integrity.

Remember to give mercy,

‘Cause God gave that to you,

Forgive like you’re forgiven,

It’s what God said to do.

And in the end you’ll look back,

And gladly give God praise,

‘Cause He’s the One who gave you strength,

To serve Him all your days.

“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.” (1 Thessalonian 4:11-12, NIV)

Life is not supposed to be complicated. Some people are dogged by drama and every situation becomes chaotic. When the Lord is in control, He simplifies things, gives wisdom for righteous choices, and empowers honest work. Unsafe relationships become more obvious, and we learn to disconnect from toxicity. We become people who are more careful about what we promise, and when we do, we deliver. The life of the Spirit is intensely practical.

Lord, help us serve You, in Jesus’ name.
