"Wanderling"
I’ve always been a wanderling,
When it was time to go,
Especially a-horseback,
And saddle up, you know.
And, yes, I’ll take an airplane,
I’m not afraid to fly,
As long as when I get there,
There’s a good horse standing by.
I’ll drive across the country,
To visit friends and kin,
But then back home to Texas,
To our place and ponies then.
Glad to see new country,
From here to Idaho,
And best to see it horseback,
Whene’er I get to go.
Might parade down there at Fredericksburg,
Or home to the SLE,
Maybe gone to Angelo,
Or Cowtown close you see.
Let’s go to Amarillo,
Where the ranch teams rope and ride,
Or up to good ol’ Cheyenne,
Wild buckin’ stock astride.
No matter where we’re goin’,
I’m always glad to say,
The Good Lord’s always with me,
And He’ll forever stay.
‘Cause I have God’s own promise,
No matter where I go,
He will not forsake us,
And wants us sure to know.
Life’s one great adventure,
For a wanderling like me,
But nothing beats the journey,
When the Good Lord leads, you see.
“…He will never leave you nor forsake you…” Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV)
People come and go but God does not. The loss we feel when someone dies or otherwise leaves can be extremely heartbreaking. But with the Lord we never walk alone. He is always there, closer than the air we breathe and present to give us exactly what we need in every situation. Jesus reminded us that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, but He came to give us abundant life. And the salient feature of that life is God’s presence with us and in us. He will never leave or forsake us. Count on it.
Lord, help us remember Your presence is always with us, in Jesus’ name.
