"Always There"
When your parents conceived you,
At your birth they received you,
God was there, always there, and He loves you.
As a child those years growing,
Your teenage years flowing,
God was there, always there, it was still true.
When you wandered away,
Like some old runaway,
God was there, always there, He came after.
When you came to your senses,
And mended your fences,
God was there, always there, gave you laughter.
When you married your spouse,
Went to work, bought your house,
God was there, always there, He would guide you.
Through the heartbreaks and pain,
Disappointments and gain,
God was there, always there, from harm hide you.
When you had your own children,
Raised ‘em strong, their lives buildin’,
God was there, always there, to equip you.
And now with grandchildren,
Your heart is filled with them,
God was there, always there, His grace grips you.
And now as life lengthens,
The Good Lord still strengthens,
God is there, always there, won’t forsake you.
Through death’s open door,
To heaven’s bright shore,
God is there, always there, He will take you.
“How precious are Your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, You are still with me!” (Psalm 139:17-18, NLT)
David had an incredible awareness concerning God. He recognized that God had known him and been with him all his life and even before he was born. He recognized that God was in charge of his life, and that his days were somehow recorded in God’s book. before any of them came to be. Clearly this did not mean that David saw himself with no choices to make. He sinned greatly and took full responsibility for his failings. But at the same time he recognized the goodness of God and the relationship that would not let him go. This is an awareness that God wants all of us to experience.
Lord, help us to be aware of Your presence and love- always, in Jesus’ name.
