"Broncy"
That broncy horse you’ll ride of course,
Until he will comply,
And some of these, if you please,
Will work out by and by.
But there are some you’ve known the ones,
Who never quite get broke,
It’s their surprise if you are wise,
And a savvy old cowpoke,
You’ll watch and see, it’s meant to be,
A blow-up in a pinch,
He’ll swell up big and test your rig,
From saddle horn to cinch.
And if you’re tied to horn and hide,
It’s just a bigger wreck,
No way to plan just spur and fan,
And you’ll survive I ‘spect.
He’s twelve years old, his back is cold,
But not at first you see,
But on the trail he’ll read your mail,
Buck higher than a tree.
You’ll rein him ‘round till you have found,
Your seat again, it’s true,
But miles to go and he will show,
What a bronc knows how to do.
You’ll come home bruised and muscles used,
You didn’t know you had,
Some strong Advil the pain to kill,
For Absorbine you are glad.
He’s broncy sure and you endure,
You tell yourself this tale,
A few more rides on his topside,
He’ll be kid-broke without fail...
Or else haul him to the sale!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)
Some horses respond beautifully to the right kind of training. It’s not always clear, but some simply do not. Some people never change. even though it’s obvious to everyone who know them that they need it. God has promised however that we can receive a new life and become new creations because of Jesus. He can forgive and free us, and change us from the inside-out. That’s why we can never write someone completely off. There’s hope because of the life-changing grace of God.
Lord, help us to change and be agents of change for others, in Jesus’ name.
