"Delight"
The cowboy was crying and there’s no denying,
He hung at the end of his rope,
Pulled over somewhere, never been there,
‘Cause felt he was plumb out of rope.
He’d earned the respect and felt the effect,
Of the skills that made him a hand,
But in spite of all that, still here he sat,
With an emptiness he could not stand.
O Lord, he then prayed, while in the truck stayed,
And asked for God’s help with his life,
God’s power came through, just like He will do,
To give him some peace, conquer strife.
He learned something new, that he could go do,
The cowboy life he’d always had,
But now Jesus came first, quenched all of his thirst,
And all of this sure made him glad.
Delight in the Lord, keep your heart toward,
All that the Lord says is right,
He’ll bless your desire, and fan your heart’s fire,
And help you to walk in the light.
Don’t doubt it, son, for many have won,
Their freedom in just the same way,
That’s cause those who call, and I really mean all,
Can count on what God has to say.
If He’s your delight, the Lord of the light,
Will give you what your heart desires,
Live to the full, and that is no bull,
It’s just what the Savior requires.
, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NIV)
If this seems too good to be true, I understand. But it shows the Father’s heart toward us. Jesus died, not only to give us eternal life, but also abundant life here on this earth. Yes, there will be trials, persecution and many challenges. But the Lord’s promise still holds true. If we delight in Him He will give us our heart’s desires. It’s also true that if we delight in Him our desires will be changed and we will learn what really matters. We will also learn that God’s timing is not always the same as ours. I have personally ridden a very wide circle which finally led to God making this promise come true for me. Keep on delighting.
Lord, help us to totally delight in You, in Jesus’ name.
