"Deep"

Deep in the heart,

I’ll do my part,

To keep my Texas free.

Where hometown charm,

Will do no harm,

The way things used to be.

Where men are men,

Like way back when,

And women highly praised,

Where right is right,

And wrong they’ll fight,

The way grandpa was raised.

Where country treats,

Are hard to beat,

And watermelon’s king.

Hand-churned ice cream,

Is not a dream,

But just beats everything.

A place to breathe,

And stress relieve,

Past the city limit sign,

Hot summer days,

So long they stay,

But the country sure is fine.

Foundations true,

‘Neath what we do,

There’s a reverence we share,

For God above,

Who sent His love,

We know He’s always there.

So come on down,

To heal your frown,

These Texans are for real,

Salt of the earth,

Come feel their worth,

It’s just the way we feel.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock…” (Matthew 7:24, NAS)

Everywhere I have lived there have been two kinds of people. The first, people who hear what God says and do it. Like Jesus said, when (not if) the storms come the house stands because of its firm foundation. The second, people who may hear but do not do what God says. Like Jesus said, the storms come to them too, but the house is destroyed because its foundation is sand. Not everyone in Texas builds on the rock, but I know many who do. And there seem to be enough of them that the culture has not totally slipped down into moral oblivion. If you live in a place where faith, freedom and family are still highly valued, praise the Lord. If you don’t, shine a light into the darkness. You never know who you might be able to win over.

Lord, help us build on the firm foundation of obedience to Your word, in Jesus’ name.
