"Faith"

The Good Book tells it plainly,

And we relate it sanely,

What we know about it mainly,

From what we’ve seen and heard.

Is we won’t be receiving,

If we are unbelieving,

And all of our achieving,

Won’t last without God’s word.

Faith grows as we digest it,

And spreads as we invest it,

Though trials come to test it,

It shields us from attack.

We speak it and we live it,

Lord knows we can’t outgive it,

Our failure He’ll forgive it,

And always have our back.

Faith like a tiny mustard seed,

Moves mountains for to meet a need,

Unleash God’s pow’r, bondage freed,

And miracles ensue.

Wave-walking is God’s will for us,

If we will only move with trust,

To please Him faith is still a must,

To see what God can do.

“And Jesus said to him, ‘If You can? All things are possible to him who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, ‘I do believe; help my unbelief.’” (Mark 9:23-24, NAS)

The man who brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus had hope that the Lord would heal him. No doubt his hope suffered when he learned that Jesus was absent and the disciples who were present could not help his son. When Jesus came down from the mountain, the man said, “Lord, if you can, please help my son.” There still was hope, but it was iffy. Jesus gave him certainty and the man cried out for help with his unbelief. This is a great prayer to pray, especially when we are struggling with an insurmountable problem. The boy was healed, and the disciples learned that mustard seed sized faith could move a mountain.

Lord, help our unbelief, in Jesus’ name.
