"Feather"

As light as any feather,

Blown upon the wind,

And that’s when I’m reminded,

How lightly God will send,

His word to give direction,

Like a whisper to the heart,

And that’s why it’s important,

For us to do our part.

When we need to listen,

Tune out the other noise,

Remembering we always,

Can make that righteous choice.

Else we miss the wonder,

Of hearing Jesus speak,

Strength that’s coming with it,

‘Specially to the weak.

And He is not coercive,

Nor will He intimidate,

The Spirit is so patient,

And He so often waits,

For us to find our focus,

So that we may receive,

What He speaks so lightly,

And here’s what I believe,

The word and truth so heavy,

Impactful and on fire,

Able to move mountains,

And change our heart’s desire,

Is often lightly given,

And only when we’re still,

Though so alive and powerful,

It can our evil kill.

Lightly, oh so lightly,

Like a feather on the wind,

The Lord is speaking to us,

So let it now begin.

“…they follow him because they know his voice…” (John 10:4, NLT)

Jesus said that his followers were like sheep who recognize the voice of their shepherd. And He explained that the shepherd’s ownership of the sheep made his relationship to them very different from those who were merely hired to care for them. He knows his sheep and calls them by name. The sheep recognize his voice and come to him because they know they will be safe if they do. They follow him, not because they are coerced but because they are led by him. All this would be impossible if they could not hear his voice. And that’s why it’s so important for us to listen for that whisper. It’s there, but we must proactively listen.

Lord, speak Your direction into our lives, in Jesus’ name.
