"God's Best"

Away down on the Concho,

A chasin’ wild bovine,

Not too far from Angelo,

And tossin’ that catch twine,

I met her ‘side the water,

Where I paused there for a drink,

And the boys all said I oughter,

Spend talk time so  they think.

With the black-haired Texas beauty,

But I was far too shy,

The boys thought it their duty,

To give it their best try,

To rope us two together,

But it was not meant to be,

That old dry blowy weather,

Blew us different ways, you see.

I kept on a horseback,

She left for San Antone,

And I could never untrack,

Why she left me alone.

But the Good Lord works in all things,

For those who love and serve,

And so I guess my heartstrings,

Finally got the nerve,

To talk to Him about it,

Yes a cowboy still can pray,

And though sometimes I doubt it,

Hear what He had to say.

The Good Lord said that beauty,

Was for someone else to see,

And prayin’ was my duty,

That girl was not for me.

I knew it when He said it,

It gave me stronger peace,

And from the Book I read it,

My burdens He’ll release.

He knew the one I needed,

And in His time and will,

All the others weeded,

And I am thankful still,

For the woman of His choosing,

She’s the other half of me,

The Spirit gently loosing,

She is God’s best, you see.

Way down on the Concho,

Could’ve been some trouble there,

The Lord is my head honcho,

He is faithful with His care.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV)

This promise is not for everyone, but that’s what makes it special. Note it’s for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Two things that go together: loving God and answering His purposeful calling on our lives. If we do, He promises He will even work through the worst things. Isn’t that amazing? God is working and we can count on it.

Lord, teach us to trust Your work, in Jesus’’ name.
