"Gone"

When the presents are all opened,

And leftovers put away,

The Christmas lights we box up,

Say good-bye to Christmas Day,

When the kinfolks hug till next time,

And out the driveway go,

The laughter and the music,

With those we love and know,

The nostalgia and traditions,

What was hung upon the tree,

The things we all remember,

‘Bout yesterday, you see,

We move on toward the new year,

With its promise and its plans,

But for now we linger,

With these few days still in hand.

Knowing we must let go,

Of the holidays sweet time,

And on to all that happens next,

Its reason and its rhyme.

But if Jesus is the reason,

For the season that we’ve had,

We really have no reason,

To be depressed or sad.

‘Cause He’s the joy of every good time,

And the comfort in what’s wrong,

And He is always with us,

And we know it won’t be long,

Till we are through with parting,

And going separate ways,

No more broken-hearting,

But one long eternal day.

Thank You, thank You, Jesus,

For all that’s come and passed,

And thank You for what is to come,

With love so deep and vast.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever…’ (Hebrews 13:8, NAS)

The holidays pass and the seasons change. The old year ends and a new one begins. We hold on to the good times and miss them when they’re finished. Such is human memory and the nature of time as it goes. But it’s important to remember that we serve the Lord of time and eternity. He is the same- always! His faithful love can be celebrated everyday, and even the worst of times can be overcome in His name. he will never leave us or forsake us. His presence is a constant we can rely upon- always!

Lord, help us rely on You, in Jesus’ name.
