"Heaven's Laughter"
I left my soul’s door open,
And the sadness sneaked right out,
And in its place some joy came in,
Heaven’s laughter with a shout.
I’m here to give some strength to you,
‘Cause this joy makes you strong,
It’s based on God’s own presence,
And where your soul belongs.
‘Cause joy is full in heaven,
All tears are wiped away,
There is no sin or sorrow,
God’s joy won’t let it stay.
But only celebration,
Heaven’s laughter all pervades,
No threat from the devil,
Or all that he invades.
Righteousness and peace reign there,
Joy’s banner flying high,
When we’re filled with the Spirit,
He dries the tears we cry.
Heaven’s laughter is good medicine,
Redemption’s party going on,
And everyone’s invited,
No matter how far gone.
“…you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory….” (1 Peter 1:8, NAS)
Joy is not enthusiasm. You can be enthused about something that is not God’s will. But joy is the one of the nine-fold fruits of the Holy Spirit, listed directly after love and peace. (Gal. 5:22-23) Paul defined the Kingdom of God as righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17) Joy is simply God-given, consistent gladness of heart. Fulness of joy is the atmosphere of heaven and the life that is filled with the Holy Spirit. The joyful heart makes a laughing smile.
Lord, fill us with the laughter of heaven, in Jesus’ name
