"Lazy Days"
Whoever called ‘em lazy days,
Didn’t know the Texas ways,
Of dripping sweat and hot sun’s blaze,
From can till can’t all summer.
They say it just hit one oh two,
But there’s a lot of work to do,
Hay to move and tell it true,
To work I’m no newcomer.
In Alabam, humid and hot,
In those long summers worked a lot,
And in the end the harvest got,
It’s just the way it was.
And now out here, it’s nothing new,
And, Lord, there is a lot to do,
So help us get it done, get through,
For every task and pause.
Our work is worship, we know this,
We give it to You, never miss,
The chance to praise for grace’s kiss,
Help us to faithful serve.
And when we see it all this way,
The heat of summer, everyday,
Fills our hearts with thanks we say,
Our worship You deserve.
“I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice- the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship Him.” (Romans 12:1, NLT)
When we think of worship we often focus on what we do together as a church on Sunday morning. That certainly has its place, but Paul speaks here of a lifestyle in which we give our bodies to God everyday. What are we doing with our bodies? We are working, eating, playing, resting- fill in the blank. Paul means that no matter what we are doing with our bodies, it should all be a praise to the Lord. No matter our activity, we are sacrificing our selfishness, dying to our egos, and living for the praise of the One who saved us. When we look at life this way, we develop a much greater depth of thankfulness in our day to day.
Lord, help us to make everything we do with our bodies something that honors You, in Jesus’ name.
