"Let It Happen"

Just got back from the country,

A ridin’ off the grid,

Felt that I should take a break,

So that’s just what I did.

Set up my old tipi,

Threw down my bed roll,

Fed my two good horses,

And decompressed my soul.

They said get social distance,

A long way’s what I got,

Miles and miles from anyone,

And peace and quiet a lot.

Made a great big circle,

Fifteen miles or more,

Had some time to think and pray,

‘Bout what this season’s for.

The thing I heard the clearest,

And think it’s why I went,

Don’t try to make things happen,

Just let them, that was sent.

That word is what He gave me,

Don’t push, but let it be,

Is one that makes me peaceful,

And release to God you see.

I think a break can help us,

But better still than that,

One good word from Jesus,

Can tell us where we’re at.

“The Spirit alone gives eternal life. Human effort accomplishes nothing. And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” (John 6:63, NLT).

One of the most important ways the Lord energizes us is through the Spirit speaking to us. Some people think that since we have the Bible, that’s enough. I understand. But in a very personal way, the Spirit is actually the One who takes what the Bible says and speaks to us concerning how we apply it to our lives. Which means there is an impartation of life that comes when the Lord actually talks to us. There are many ways this happens, but the important thing is that we’re listening to the Spirit and asking Him to lead. If the Spirit is leading, it stacks the odds that we will not depend too heavily on human effort, but will allow the Spirit to do what only He can make successful. That’s why when I heard, “Don’t make it happen, let it happen” it brought such relief. If you’ve ever made anything happen you know you can. But it’s best not to default to human ideas, abilities or strength. Rather, we get more done and certainly more that is eternally productive if we listen and obey the Spirit’s leading.

Lord, help us not make it happen, but let it happen, in Jesus’ name.
