"Look"

Dad said look to where I’m pointin’,

At the steers I could not see,

They were hidden in a thicket,

And he was teaching me,

How to see past the surroundings,

And focus on what’s there,

And if I paid attention,

They would appear, I swear.

John said look to where I’m pointin’,

On the broad, expansive plain,

Do you see those cattle,

I said no, he called my name.

Brad, look in this direction,

And I squinted past his hand,

And there far below us,

Dots spread across the land.

Look to where I’m pointin’,

The Spirit said to me,

And there into the future,

Was the trail where I’d soon be.

If you look and listen,

You will not miss My voice,

Neither will you falter,

When comes time to make a choice.

He speaks out of the quiet,

He points the way to go,

If we can just get quiet enough,

The way is what He’ll show.

We live by His direction,

‘Cause we are His, you see,

And every single child of God,

He’ll lead where we should be.

“…because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God…” (Romans 8:14, NIV)

One of the most significant marks of God’s sons and daughters is that they are led by the Spirit of God. He leads them to do God’s will, and empowers them to do it. This is an experience unique to those who have accepted the Savior and been born of the Spirit. This does not mean that children of God are always led by the Spirt or cannot fall short of what God is leading them to do. On the contrary, the track record most of us have for being Spirit-led is a mixed review. That’s because we still have to deal with our sinful nature and must put to death the misdeeds of the body on a daily basis. Still, it is a wonderful thing to have God’s leadership in our lives. He will speak and He will lead.

Lord, help us listen to and obey the leadership of Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name.
