"My Country"

My country ‘tis of thee,

Where violence stalks us all, you see,

And schools are not secure, should be,

From those who do us harm.

Where we defund those who protect,

Don’t give the law its due respect,

The right to bear, soon gone I ‘spect,

There’s cause for our alarm.

When morals crumble, families, too,

And boys act like they’re girls, it’s true,

And no one knows just what to do,

They call the truth a lie.

When light is dark and dark is light,

On every platform people fight,

When right is wrong and wrong is right,

Folks struggling to get by.

Give me those who have a dream,

For what our country once has been,

Though not perfect, still the scene,

Of what God had in mind.

When He created equally,

With right to pursue peaceably,

And learn to live agreeably,

If we will seek to find.

God, raise up the patriots strong,

Who never yield to what is wrong,

And know we all to God belong,

It’s what our country needs.

To stand up for democracy,

And all the things that keep us free,

On this our birthday let it be,

And harvest freedom’s seeds.

“Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, so our land will be filled with His glory…” (Psalm 85:9, NLT)

The psalmist asks God for national spiritual revival, and for the land to be filled with God’s glory. The word “glory” is typically associated with God’s presence. It is true that God’s is omnipresent, meaning He is everywhere. But revival would mean that there would be widespread awareness of God’s presence. People would receive and celebrate HIs presence in life-changing ways. Our nation’s roots are all about God’s presence, equality, and gifts of freedom. Let’s pray that we will return to these roots.

Lord, help us to return to our spiritual roots, in Jesus’ name.
