"Rain"

Months of dry and drier,

A ban against all fire,

And all our prayers desire,

Was just to see it rain.

And then we heard the forecast,

We hoped for wetter contrast,

And that our prayers would outlast,

   The dry and dusty plain.

To town to buy the grass seed,

And got more than we might need,

Spread it strong to succeed,

   And just before the rain.

And now the moisture’s falling,

The storm is quite enthralling,

After months of calling,

   On God, in Jesus’ name.

And soon the green is showing,

The grass we planted growing,

The wind is softly blowing,

    We praise the Lord above.

Naysayers don’t believe it,

‘Cause they cannot conceive it,

But we thankfully receive it,

And praise Him for His love.

“…He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous.: (Matthew 5:45, NAS)

When Jesus encouraged His disciples to love their enemies He pointed them to how the heavenly Father loves everybody. He blesses people who do not acknowledge that He exists. He sends sunshine and rain on those who never pray. The fact that God is this generous is good to remember. It also takes nothing away from the fact that God hears and answers prayer, including our petitions when we need rain. Praise the Lord for unconditional love. Praise the Lord for the blessing of answered prayer.

Lord, thank You for the rain, in Jesus’ name.
