"Red-neck Virus"
There is a red-neck virus,
That’s contagious so it seems,
It must come from exposure,
The evidence now deems.
That if you hear some country music,
Or you eat some country food,
You might feel yourself a-slippin’,
Into a red-neck mood.
You’ll find yourself at home with,
Blue jeans and cowboy hats,
You might trade in your soccer,
For football games and stats.
They feed you peas and cornbread,
And fried chicken’s on the list,
They might pour up some buttermilk,
That’s right, it does exist.
Fo dessert there’s pie and cobbler,
And never skimp on sweet,
Topped with home-made ice cream,
That’s really hard to beat.
Hard work is on the weekdays,
Weekends to hunt and fish,
On Sunday go to worship,
And try not to ever miss.
We say yessir and yes ma’am,
Treat females with respect,
We open doors for ladies,
Do so without regret.
We stand up for America,
Hats off and hands on hearts,
When someone is in need of help,
We load up and do our parts.
The red-neck virus is alive and well,
You could do worse, my friend,
It’s for God, guns, and country,
The way it’s always been.
“For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.” (Psalm 95:7, NAS)
Jesus died for everyone. When we come to the cross, it’s level ground. We all have sinned and we all need a Savior. None are excluded. Thank God Jesus’ death was not limited to people we like or with whom we share a common culture. Snobbery, intellectual or otherwise, is resisted by God. God always resists the proud and graces the humble. Some of the wealthiest people I’ve known were the most deceived. Some of he poorest were the happiest. I’ve seen educated fools and rednecks with great wisdom. God love us all.
Lord, thank You for loving us the way we are, in Jesus’ name.
