"Shoot"

When it’s time to pull the trigger,

And you’re finished with your aim,

You have to flip the safety off,

And then you shoot that thing.

Some are stuck on ready aim,

That’s all they ever do,

They just can’t pull the trigger,

On anything, it’s true.

And some are just so cautious,

The safety’s always on,

So even if they try to shoot,

The bullet can’t get gone.

I know some who are reckless,

It’s shoot, then ready aim,

And no one wants to be like them,

Or have that claim to fame.

But if you never shoot it,

Why even have a gun,

It’s like you cannot use it,

Or do what must be done.

Life will have its moments,

Its opportunities,

But if we don’t do something,

We’ll likely miss all these.

Why, ‘cause we aren’t ready,

If we are, can’t follow through,

And when it comes down to it,

Get ready, but then do.

The Good Book says it plainly,

Don’t just know what’s true,

But know it, then apply it,

The Word we’re called to do.

We serve a God of action,

He sent His Son to save,

Jesus died and rose again,

For this old world He gave.

What if He hadn’t done it,

Just talked, but never did,

Lord, knows we’d be in trouble,

And no way we’d get rid,

Of all our sins and burdens,

Our wounds and injuries,

But by His stripes He heals us,

The Father was well-pleased.

Immanuel, God with us,

The Word of God made flesh,

Came close and made the rescue,

And brought to us God’s yes.

“But when the right time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent Him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that He could adopt us as His very own children.” (Galatians 4:4-5, NLT)

When the time was right, God acted. It’s important for us to realize the magnitude of God’s action. There were promises made, and when it was time to pull the trigger on keeping them, He did. Jesus birth and life in all ways identified with humanity, and in His righteous obedience, never sinned against God’s law. As slaves to a law we could never keep, Jesus satisfied the death penalty we deserved, and set us free to obey God. We enjoy His adoption into the eternal family because of the action of Jesus. May be people of action for Him.

Lord, help us do what You want when You want it, in Jesus’ name.
