"Sun Sets"

The sun sets over Texas,

And we welcome sacred night,

The coolness of the evening,

And the moonbeams’ lesser light.

We watch the shadows gather,

As the cattle find their bed,

The horses as they slide away,

After they’ve been fed.

There’s a coyote on the river,

Where the geese soon make their rise,

And a hoot owl in the cottonwood,

And a turtledove’s low cries.

And we feel profoundly thankful,

For the grace we’ve felt all day,

And we listen for the Spirit,

And the words that He might say.

But the music in the willows,

And the chorus from the trees,

The song of God’s creation,

And the moment that we seize,

To give praise to the Savior,

In Spirit with what’s true,

And we enjoy His favor,

And from Him take our cue.

No burden ‘cause He lifts it,

No sin He can’t forgive,

No hurt because He heals it,

It’s just the way we live.

And when the night is finished,

And a new day dawns again,

We’ll rise to greet the morning,

Walking in the Spirit then.

“Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is exalted.” (Psalm 148:13, NaS)

All that is created has one undying purpose and that is to glorify the Creator. Human beings, the height of God’s creation who actually reflect His image, are destined to praise Him forever. This is only possible when we receive the Redeemer who restores us to fellowship with God. Otherwise our identity and purpose are interrupted by sin. Being forgiven and reconciled to Him means we can praise Him now while looking forward to an eternity of praising Him. And this is exactly what God has planned. Enjoy it now. Expect it forever.

Lord, teach us to be worshipers, in Jesus’ name.
