"Thanks, Lord"
It’s a down-home kind of Texas thing,
With horses in the street,
Flags a-flying, western swing,
With cowboy hats replete.
And yonder comes the posse,
Who plans the rodeo,
The real thing, not a copy,
If you know ‘em, then you know.
It’s young kids runnin’ everywere,
It’s a dance for everyone,
Small town hollers, loud I swear,
And lots and lots of fun.
And then we dance a slow one,
And she says this is home,
And yesterdays, there are none,
This day is what we own.
And I say Lord, I’m thankful,
For these blessings that I see,
His Spirit brings a bankful,
Of the way things ought to be.
“Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4, NAS)
This is one of those long-term promises that is often used to justify selfish behavior. But this is not what the promise implies. It simply means that if we love the Lord with all our hearts He shapes our desires and aligns them with His plan for our lives. He loves to bless His kids with good things. So following Jesus is not just about what we sacrifice but what He gives those who delight in Him. What a wonderful God we serve!
Lord, we delight in You, in Jesus’ name.
