"The Cowboy Way"

A cowboy has his reasons,

For what he’ll do and say,

It’s summed up in just three words,

They call the cowboy way.

And no, it isn’t written down,

It’s an unspoken code,

But all real cowboys know it,

As sure as horses rode.

Has to do with doing,

What you say you’ll do,

And showing up and working,

Until the job is through.

It’s loyal to the brand you serve,

And truthful all the way,

It’s caring for God’s creatures,

If that means night and day.

It’s overcoming trouble,

And weather cold and wet,

Or when it’s hot and dusty,

And rainfall you can’t get.

It’s being kind to others,

Defending those who need,

It’s loving our great country,

And planting freedom’s seed.

So you can see I’m talking,

‘Bout something sweet and strong,

And God know that we need it,

In this country that’s gone wrong.

And one more thing I’ll mention,

Before this rhyme is through,

And that’s about the Savior,

And that part of it, too.

The cowboy comes to Jesus,

Because in Him he sees,

The answer to his weakness,

It takes him to his knees.

And so many cowboys,

Have called upon the Lord,

Gave their life to Jesus,

And rely upon His Word,

That following the Savior,

Is just the cowboy way,

And thankfully he rides on,

Till that eternal day.

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:17, NLT)

Jesus affirmed that He was the only way to the Father. I believe that what He said about that is true. Jesus is the Savior and the only way we can be saved. That said, there are many ways to Jesus. He uses the beauty of creation, music, the testimony of believers, the scripture, the circumstances of life and many, many more avenues to draw people. In fact Jesus said no one could come to Him except the Father draws Him. So, we are drawn by the Spirit of the Father to Jesus, who is our way to be reconciled to the Heavenly Father. So where does the cowboy way come in? It’s just something God uses! It is an ethic embraced by Christian cowboys and at times, something that the Lord uses to draw someone to salvation. In any case, the cowboy code has value, and is based on biblical principles. May the Lord draw us all to a closer walk with Himself.

Lord, help us follow You with all our hearts, in Jesus’ name.
