"The Point"

They’s some who never get the point,

I doubt they ever will,

They miss the forest for the trees,

Their blindness lasts until,

They either die a-voting no,

Just  when they should say yes,

Go out just the way they lived,

And miserable I guess.

The other option is they change,

And I’ll hold out for that,

You gotta figure God still could,

He’ll make their blindness scat.

Just like old Bartimaeus,

Who’d never seen a thing,

He cried out for mercy,

The Good Lord heard him sing,

And then and there He healed him,

Once blind, then Bart could see,

And when I think about it,

It gives some hope to me.

That these old crusty church folks,

Naysayers, gossips, too,

Who find fault with everybody,

Quench what others want to do,

Will somehow find some healing,

So that God will help them see,

The Spirit can bring miracles,

Our faith can rise and be,

The channel for some godly change,

And transformation real,

Jesus showing He is Lord,

And the Spirit you can feel.

So next time they don’t get the point,

Don’t waste a lot of breath,

Trying to convince them,

They’ll argue you to death.

Just pray the Lord sends healing,

To blind eyes God gives sight,

And then they, too, can see the truth,

And walk strong in the light.

“And answering him, Jesus said, ‘What do you want Me to do for you?’ And the blind man said to Him, ‘Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!’ And Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has made you well.’ Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.” (Mark 10:51-52, NAS)

What a miracle! Jesus was leaving town when He passed by the blind beggar, Bartimaeus. He began crying out for mercy with a loud voice and disregarded those who told him to be quiet. Jesus stopped and had them bring Bartimaeus to Him, then asked him a strange question. He asked the blind man what he wanted. Wasn’t it obvious to everyone? Yet Jesus must have wanted to hear from the blind man himself. His request was an expression of faith which Jesus acknowledged was the reason for the healing miracle. What’s the takeaway? The only blindness that cannot be healed is that which is denied. Faith runs to Jesus with full honesty and trusts Him to do the miracle.

Lord, heal our blindness, in Jesus’ name.
