"Dream"
I always had a cowboy dream,
I struggled with it long,
I thought if that’s the way I went,
It had to be all wrong.
That’s because the ones I knew,
Were loud and wild and rank,
A drinkin’, cussin’, smokin’ crew,
You could take that to the bank.
I rode and worked and laughed with them,
They taught me what to do,
But at church they scolded me,
And told me what I knew,
And that’s I was a sinner,
And on my way to hell,
And I sure didn’t want to go,
They could really ring that bell.
Fast forward through the decades,
The wide circles that I rode,
The way of life I came to know,
And all the Good Lord showed,
I found that I could cowboy,
And be a Jesus man,
That I could rope and ride and hoot,
And follow God’s own plan.
The Good Lord gave that dream to me,
And it sure did come true,
And you should follow what He gives,
It will be the same for you.
Folks without a vision,
Have no hope you see,
They lack the inspiration,
To be all they can be.
But God gives us a future,
An adventure all the way,
So take the dream and live it,
It’s what you’ll hear Him say.
“Where there is no vision, the people perish (are unrestrained), but happy is he who keeps the law.” (Proverbs 29:18, NIV)
God is giver of revelation. He inspires us with a future dream or vision, and it also brings adjustment to our direction. What God reveals to us will also be biblical, but beyond that, there is a wide range of possibilities. Don’t be afraid to use your God-given imagination and dream big! What God says trumps anyone else’s opinion. Don’t listen to the dream-stealers. Listen to God.
Lord, inspire and adjust us with Your dream for our lives, in Jesus’ name.
