"Yes"
Maybe you heard so many no’s,
That deep inside you hear,
You are wrong, can’t get it right,
They made it very clear.
And so you’ve thought just what’s the use,
No matter what I do,
I’m guilty ‘fore I even start,
It’s how folks feel, it’s true.
To them God is an angry judge,
Whom you can never please,
From constant condemnation,
It seems there’s no release.
At birth the doctor slapped you,
You thought it was deserved,
And those who have real happiness,
For them it’s been reserved.
But you’re too wrong to be okay,
And now you think too late,
But all I have to say to you,
Hold on there, just wait.
In Jesus God says yes to you,
And all His promised grace,
Is right there close for you to claim,
And see His smiling face.
Yes to whom you really are,
No to that false you,
Yes to your abundant life,
Not to sin’s sad cue.
So now He waits for you to say,
Yes to His better plan,
He said it first, so say it back,
‘Cause He’s your biggest fan.
“For the Son of God, Christ Jesus, who was preached among you by us- by me and Silvanus and Timothy- was not yes and no, but is yest in Him.” (2 Corinthians 1:19, NAS)
Many people have the mistaken notion that the main thing God is saying to them is “no.” We would assume it’s because that’s what has been emphasized to them. Their minds are full of “Thou shalt nots” and they pretty much believe it’s impossible to please God because of His demands. But what is all-important is for them to hear God’s yes, and we do in Christ Jesus. God says yes to us in love, while at the same time saying no to what is killing us. The message of His love is truly the best news ever. If we clearly hear God’s yes we will consistently honor His no.
Lord, help us to hear Your yes to us, in Jesus ‘name.
